UMG FOUNDATION JOINS THE GREEN FOOD WEEK ORGANIZED BY FOODINSIDER

The Magna Graecia University Foundation has also decided to join the Green Food Week to sit, ideally, at this large table where diners from school, university and company canteens, associations and pediatricians come together to do something to protect the environment. A choice that aims to significantly contribute to reducing the impact of nutrition on the climate since, as all scientific studies confirm, the food system generates more than a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions on the planet. Green Food Week is an opportunity to return to the Mediterranean diet where legumes are the protagonists of the meal, the food is seasonal and local, produced with techniques that preserve the fertility of the soil (organic), all conditions that guarantee a better quality of the food, avoiding food waste. The initiative, promoted by Foodinsider, is linked to M'illumino di meno of the Caterpillar program on Rai Radio2 and involves many canteens from north to south Italy.

“The Magna Graecia University Foundation, upon invitation from Andisu, joins the 'Green Food Week' initiative with great enthusiasm - states Geremia Romano, president of the UMG Foundation - with the aim of contributing to the promotion of conscious food and environmental choices. This week, thanks to the preparation of dedicated menus that will be served in the university canteen and the planning of targeted information initiatives, we will involve young people in a cultural journey on the values of sustainability oriented towards a correct lifestyle that looks to the future".

In the menus that will be offered from 7 to 9 February in the university canteen, preference is given to the consumption of local, organic products and foods with low environmental impact with dishes based on legumes and millet to which the United Nations has dedicated the year 2023.

The broad participation in the Green Food Week with more than 200 municipalities and 60 universities demonstrates how sensitivity towards low environmental impact nutrition is increasing.

Choosing what to eat can reduce your personal environmental footprint, doing so together with many people who eat in the canteen has a significant impact on the climate and stimulates the sharing of ethics with a profound convivial value. UMG Foundation, thanks to Green Food Week, wants to help raise awareness of the fact that we are the climate and our conscious choices can change the present

and the future of the Planet.
